Good morning Today We will review amazonbest selling product optimus real time gps tracker.
This is a good concept if youhave any suspicions or you want to keep an eye on a loved one that may be travelling.
This unit is not flawless, but it doesgive a semi-accurate position.
I fullycharged the device, which surprisingly took about an hour or so.
It came withabout a 50% charge, so the start of the hour began at 51%.
Its fairly small, soit would be easy to conceal if you needed to.
There are also options where you canpurchase a magnetic case to conceal it on the undercarriage of a vehicle.
Though, Idid not opt to purchase one of those and have no clue how reliable they are.
Youcan either track the position via the website, or you can download the app.
Iwould suggest if you want a more accurate location, use both options.
I say thisbecause a few times the website said one location and the app said another.
Withthat being established, the battery life on this thing is excellent.
I put it inthe vehicle on September 9th at 100% charge.
It is now September 15th and thecharge is still at 49%.
I can concludethat the battery life is definitely a positive in this case.
My usage is basedon having the settings record an update every minute that the vehicle is inmovement, so thats definitely a long battery life thus far.
Though, I shouldprobably mention that a majority of the battery discharged during the first twodays.
Since then, its been dischargingsuper slow.
You can send a remote commandto the device to update the tracking settings.
However, even though I have itset to update every minute, it doesnt exactly do that.
When the vehicle isparked, it wont update at all for me - no matter how many times I send a command orclick refresh.
Even when the vehicle IS inmotion, it will not update every minute.
It continues to update about every 3-4minutes while set to 1 minute and the vehicle is in motion.
The tracking is noteven very detailed.
It will give you anestimated path that the vehicle has taken, but it mostly just shows checkpoints onthe map, and lines that dont correlate with the roads - in other words, it showspaths even when roads dont exist there as it just draws a straight line from oneping to another, and provides little arrows that point in the direction thatthe vehicle is moving.
You wont get turnby turn tracking.
At times when thevehicle is parked, the map will sometimes show that the vehicle has moved a house ortwo away when it actually hasnt.
Though, not all GPS is 100% reliable as its based on coordinates and pings.
The device issilent, so if youre hiding it in someones vehicle and send a command from your phoneor the website, there will be no sound to alert the person(s) in the vehicle.
Theapp will also show you the reception of the device and how much battery percentageis left.
This is a great feature as itindicates when you need to get ready to retrieve the device and charge it.
The appalso indicates the mph that the individual is driving.
Aside from the purchaseprice, you will also need to pay for a monthly plan for using the service.
My feeis $19.
95 per month.
I find this price tobe a bit excessive because there are phone apps that give better accuracy and can behidden - those are free! I wouldnt mindpaying anywhere from $5-$10 per month for the convenience of having a little deviceto actually conceal, but the price of the current plan is just outrageous to me -especially if someone plans on long-term use.
I could just as easily purchase asecondary cell phone, install a free tracking app, and hide it in the samelocation and receive better results.
Onboth the app and the website, you can gather the tracking information fromprevious days for viewing.
On the website, you can even export the data for printing purposes if you so choose to present theinformation to the person you are tracking.
There wasnt an option to print adetailed summary of the map, but I simply used the print screen option on my laptopto print a picture of the map and the ping points.
You also have the option oftracking multiple devices should you need to.
Overall, its a neat idea and veryconvenient, but it could certainly use some work.
PROS: Convenient ConcealableLong Battery Life Integrated Website Integrated Cell Phone App Can TrackMultiple Devices Silent CONS: Long Charge Time No Turn By Turn Tracking DoesntUpdate Every 1 Minute Random Movement Tracked When Parked Doesnt Provide PrintOption For Map Outrageous Monthly Service Charge UPDATE: Shortly after publishingthis review, an Optimus representative reached out to me via email to discusssome of my concerns listed here.
He statedthat although these options are not immediately available for the user to set,if they contact customer service they can actually enable turn by turn tracking, andeven a 30 second ping option.
I stronglyurged them to make these additional settings available to the user so theydont have to dial customer service or wait on an email from them when they need thesettings done immediately.
However, doknow that setting these options will surely discharge the battery quicker.
Forthose who are unaware, I asked about pausing the monthly services - therepresentative said you may stop it at any time and resume it later on in the future.
Thats a great thing to know.
He alsoexpressed that they are anticipating an update to their software, so I suggestedthe option to print the data - especially the map.
I look forward to seeing anyimprovements in the future.
